FAQ

A list of our most frequently asked questions.

How Can I Prepare?

  • Register in advance.
  • Eat a proper meal before you come to class.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water and bring water with you to stay hydrated. Practicing CPR is physical and can cause fatigue.

What should I wear?

  • Jeans and a loose fitting shirt or sweats. (You will be performing CPR on the floor on your knees.)  If you warm easily and choose to wear a sweatshirt, consider wearing a t-shirt underneath so you can remove your sweatshirt if necessary.
  • Comfortable shoes such as tennis shoes/sneakers or a great walking shoe. Please no open toe shoes.
  • Keep jewelry to a minimal. DO NOT wear long earrings, necklaces, scarves, or anything that dangles or hangs.

What should I bring with me?

  • A positive attitude.
  • A notebook or an electronic device you can take notes on, i.e. laptop, iPad, tablet or phone. You may also take notes in your copy of the class manual.
  • Pen or Pencil.
  • The appropriate class manual, unless you are purchasing it from us on the day of class. If necessary, you may also borrow a manual from us.  Needless to say, you may NOT take notes in those.

How long does a certification last?

  • The certification from the American Heart Association is effective two years from the month in which you take your class. In other words,  if you are certified in April 2017, your expiration date is April 2019.  (Please note, you may re-certify with us without having to take the entire class again.)

When will certification cards be received?

  • Certification cards will be emailed to you within 48 hours after completing the class unless your class was taught on a weekend. You may print your card as well as forward to whomever you may need to.

Can anyone do CPR or First Aid?

Here is what the American Heart Association states in their liability policy:

The course for which you are enrolled may include physical strain, possibility for cross infection and emotional stress.  CPR is very strenuous both in practice with the mannequin and performing CPR on an actual cardiac arrest victim. If you have any medical conditions or cardiovascular disease history that may be aggravated by this course, please consult your physician as to whether you should participate in a CPR course.

Are your instructors certified?

Absolutely!  We could not certify others if  we were not certified to perform CPR as well as teach. All of our instructors are American Heart Association certified to perform and teach CPR.  Most of our instructors  teach other related subjects as well, such as Fire Safety and/or EMS.  Some have also been Armed Forces trainers.

Do you contract with companies or large groups?

Yes we do. We contract to provide training and certification for company employees, high school and college students, organizations and special interest groups.  Please contact us for group rates and scheduling.

How often do you have classes?

We typically have an ongoing schedule of day and evening classes throughout the week, including weekends.  We have created time slots that seem to meet most individual needs.  If for some reason, none of the scheduled times work for you, let us know.  We may be able to set a time that works for you as long as we get enough additional enrollees to conduct the class.  As mentioned above, please contact us for private group class scheduling.
